![]() there is a new state to put enemies in where you can do death blows that are always the same but to make sure you never miss them they boosted enemy hp so they're damage sponges now sense moves mean that you are likely never in any risk Traversal is beyond bad for at least 3 reasons : Your only form of pick ups are pointless upgrades that are signposted everywhere in case you're too dumb to miss one.īoss fights are snorefests where the only creative part is how the autopilot will deal the death blow with a cool move you'll never pull yourself. There's like 1 or 2 new power ups, everything else is warmed leftovers from better games. There's no exploration, to go with the theme of Samus not being authorized anything, the game doesn't allow you to explore anything till the very end and you're given a goddamn GPS showing you everywhere you'll ever get and don't you ever dare try to backtrack because doors lock up behind you so forward is the only way to go. On the very first cutscene, I realized I was commenting on how BBS knew how to tell a story about characters and make you understand what the characters were and making you care for them.īut that's not even close to the worst offense this game does. The next game I played after this atrocity was Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. It is beyond known that the story in Other M is crap. It didn't brick my Wii which is about the only positive I can give. The 2 things I care the most in Metroid games : exploration and music were beyond crap. It is by a significant margin the worst thing I ever had the misfortune of interacting with that had the name Nintendo on the box. Other than that, the game is just flawed to the core due to that shit """inventive""" control scheme that has been analyzed to death and I have nothing new to add to discuss about and the less is said about the story, the better (what a shlockfest).Īll in all, 5/10, didn't despise it, but I can see how it had such a negative splash (especially in the context of its release at the time). The game is flawed up the ass, but there are some things I did like, despite it all.įirst of all, the atmosphere was pretty dang good, The Bottle Ship made for a pretty unnerving setting + the whole "dream-like" aspect with the holograms.Īlso, how come nobody brings up the cinematic finishers, those were pretty rad (loved the one done by jumping on an enemy).Īnd as a last thing, I didn't bother with the post game since I had my fill, but how nice and cool of the developers to mark every unpicked item after you beat the main game, makes the thought (emphasis on "thought") of going back for 100% much more tolerable. Hey, I played it too for the first time recently to "prepare" for Dread. During the past weeks, I have completed Super Metroid, Zero Mision, Fusion, Samus Returns, Prime 2 and Other M. My preparation for Dread is not complete. Just don't let Team Ninja nowhere near the story. The game is not really a metroidvania but more an action game and I did not mind that. Quite frankly I would not mind seeing a sequel with a few polish. Hunting for missiles was more or less pointless besides completion rate and enemies not dropping anything made fighting them useless unless you are forced to. I like that the post game content had a boss unrelated to the main plot. Speaking of bosses, fighting Nightmare from Fusion and Phantoon from Super was a nice surprise. The first person mechanic was just an unnecessary gimmick that hampered the gameplay especially when fighting multiple enemies or bosses. I was expecting them to be awful for semi 3D sections but no. The controls were sur surprisingly good with just the dpad. It's so satisfying dodging at the last minute and landing a killing blow with a charge shot. The charge shot feedback is probably the best the series ever had. The gameplay on the other hand was pretty good. ![]() The big reveal about Mother Brain at the end got me rolling my eyes. The excuse to lock your abilities based on Adam humor was pretty lame and made no sense. ![]() It's like someone said Samus is too bad ass to be a women so let's put a man behind her. Let's get it out the way, the story and characters are garbage.

Muni portrays the over-the-top Camonte with exuberance and energy. Scarface stars Paul Muni as Tony Camonte, a power-mad, vicious, and immature thug in Prohibition-Era Chicago. The original script was based on the 1930 novel, Scarface by Armitage Trail (a pseudonym for Maurice Coons) but by all accounts, the final film barely resembles the novel. The screenplay for Scarface was written by writer/journalist Ben Hecht – one he reportedly wrote in eleven days using his Chicago newspaper experiences. This film goes “all out” in its depiction of the criminal and his crimes. Of the early crime films, it was the Howard Hughes’ production of Howard Hawks’ raw Scarface: Shame of a Nation (1932) that had the biggest impact, both on the stricter enforcement of the code and on other crime films. ![]() The code also demanded minimal details of crimes (and sex) be shown on-screen. The clear message had to be, “crime doesn’t pay”. After 1934, when the code was strictly enforced, criminals and crime could not be glorified in films in any way. This is particularly true of the pre-code era – that is, before the Motion Picture Production Code (aka, Hays Code or “the code”), cast its web of limitations on the movie industry. The movies flaunted the archetypal exploits of swaggering, cruel, wily, tough, and law-defying urban gangsters. The “rackets” of bootlegging, gambling and prostitution brought these mobsters to folk hero status, and audiences during that time vicariously participated in the gangster’s rise to power and wealth – on the big screen and sometimes in real life. In fact, many of the sensationalist plots of early gangster films were penned from newspaper headlines. True events like Prohibition (until 1933), subsequent bootlegging, the existence of real-life gangsters and real crime reported in newspapers helped to encourage the crime genre. Valentine’s Day massacre, an event that would be depicted in many films through the years. Worthy mentions in early “sound,” crime films are: Bryan Foy’s, The Lights of New York (1928), Rouben Mamoulian’s City Streets (1931) from a story penned by Dashiell Hammett, which was (reportedly) Al Capone’s favorite film, and Tay Garnett’s, Bad Company (1931), which was the first picture to feature the St. ![]() The reason for this is rather obvious – sound brought…well, sound to the movies enhancing images in this case with machine gun fire, screams, chases through city streets and what have you that added to the realism. ![]() However, it wasn’t until the sound era (the 1930s) that gangster films truly became an entertaining, popular way to attract audiences to theaters for a “full” experience, one might say. Crime and criminals have been the focus of motion pictures since the birth of the medium. ![]() ![]() The enemy Al works as well as your own team's, with bad guys making good use of cover, lobbing grenades to try to pin you down and generally behaving like the ill-trained Iraqi soldiers they represent. ![]() The control system, initially as confusing as the Greek legal system, becomes second nature quickly, even if it's mostly just used as a way of positioning your team to set up effective 'kill zones'. The action is relentless and challenging, even if enemy spawn points are obvious to locate and further break down the immersion factor. Dude, IraqĪs long as you can live with the overall shallowness of it all, there is a lot to admire here. The whole game is still very much on rails, which brings the whole thing crashing down to an arcade level quicker than putting the word Extreme in the title. It's more, 'choose the best way of getting round that comer and only that comer'. It's not freedom in the Operation Flashpoint 'do what you want, go where you want' manner. Once again, you have the illusion of freedom on offer here, something heightened by the ability to give orders to all four of your squad-mates at once, all of whom sport much more impressive Al than that found in many other games of this ilk. What's not so good is the actual structure of these levels. A couple, maybe, but the developer has listened to feedback from the first and really made an effort to keep things interesting this time round. Rescuing trapped soldiers, destroying communications facilities, escaping from capture - and barely a sand dune in sight. You may remember the original CDS: an extremely yellow game, based mostly on controlling four SAS troopers (or Delta Force operatives if you wanted the Americanised experience) blowing up SCUD missile launchers in the deserts of Iraq during the first UN foray into Saddam's playpen of death.ĬDSII is set during the same timeframe, with the same soldiers. It doesn't deserve unilateral praise either, but as a way of passing a few hours, there are worse options. Yes, I should be tearing strips from its hide, but frankly it just doesn't deserve it. It is, after all, an extremely linear arcade shooter masquerading as a deeper, tactical, strategic military simulation, and nothing, nothing, gets my goat more than arcade mutton dressed up as simulation lamb. ![]() Runs above full speed., Minor graphics errors present which are fixed if GSdx is in Software mode.In my heart of hearts, I can't help but feel that with Conflict: Desert Storm II I should probably be dancing naked around the bonfire of negativity, throwing burning sticks of hate on to the rising flame of critique. Unfortunately for Dan he will never know he has a daughter since he died before Tsunade discovered she was actually pregnant, to her dismay. In the case of Naruto and Kushina, I think it’s because the Naruto/Kushina fanfic is written by the same person who wrote the Naruto/Kushina fanfic for Naruto X Kushina. If you’re not, then it’s a pretty good indicator that you should give it a go. If you’re a fan of one of your favorite characters you can usually tell just by reading fanfiction. I feel like I’ve done this a few times in the past. Then, I looked up the character and realized that this was fanfiction written by the same writer. One of the best parts about reading fanfiction is the relationship that fans have with their favorite characters. What is the best part about reading fanfiction? They are a bit more reckless and riskier than humans, but they are still able to be rather fun. They tend to have stronger wills and stronger emotions. The first approach to the game maps requires a good dose of caution even at standard difficulty and those who feared that the new Capcom title would make the verse to the frenetic (often delusional) last chapters of the franchise, can sleep peacefully: Resident Evil 2 Remake forces the player to use their brains long before pulling the trigger, both for environmental puzzles and for exploration.Īmmo is scarce, heals are scarce and even the most battered of zombies will not be shot down by less than four gun bullets in the head. The over-the-shoulder shot and the dynamic light have pushed the software house to a different management of the tension and difficulty induced by the game: Resident Evil 2 Remake is much darker and more claustrophobic than the original version and this will also allow fans mad to suffer well-deserved punishments and jump-scare in case they decide to be imprudent, charging with their heads down. ![]() Once the game is over, it will be possible to wear the original clothes of the two protagonists. In addition to the iconic, evergreen zombies, there are various types of enemies (which we will not name to avoid spoilers for those unfamiliar with the plot of the game) and all have a different behavioral routine and will suffer damage to their body parts, reacting accordingly. Both the protagonists, the settings and the enemies enjoy a design with attention to the smallest details, with particular and very welcome regard for the injuries that the weapons cause to the bodies and their way of moving.įor example, hitting an undead in the legs could cripple or even mutilate him and this would cause him to crawl. The first thing to catch your eye is, of course, the graphics sector: the title is splendid and very fluid even in the “poor” console versions and, excluding the loading at the beginning of the game, the campaign continues without pauses except for those marked by movies in game engine. And what the nostalgics will probably never admit, if not with a cold mind, is that Resident Evil 2 Remake succeeds perfectly in this intent. While wanting to keep the spirit of Resident Evil 2 unchanged, Resident Evil 2 Remake is in effect a completely original game, which does not aim – only – to enhance the value of its ancestor, but also to prove that it can be better. The structural change required a mammoth work on the part of Capcom for the construction of new aesthetics and above all a new level design around this concept. No more fixed cameras and pre-rendered backgrounds, Resident Evil 2 Remake now offers dynamic light and a rotatable shot, placed over the protagonist’s shoulder. Resident Evil 2 Remake was presented to the world with a completely renewed graphics and a radically different gameplay compared to the famous video game of the late 90s. It is therefore logical that the announcement that took place during E2 2018 of the remake of Resident Evil 2, untouchable pillar of the horror genre and consecration of the Resident Evil brand, has aroused even more fear. Sane Trilogy and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, majestic works that mainly leverage the nostalgia effect and little or nothing affect the original gameplay, a little to avoid attracting the ire of longtime fans, a little for the convenience of realization. This is exactly the reason that pushes most of the older gamers to jump at the announcement of this or that remake, thanks to the sad tendency inherited from modern Western cinema to distort immortal classics with new uninspired editions, disrespectful of the original work or, simply, badly done.Ī mixture of expectation, fear, suspicion and hope has always accompanied the presentations of projects such as Crash Bandicoot: N. ![]() An inevitable part of the transition to adulthood is the tendency to want to protect everything related to childhood memories: after all, they are the basis on which everyone’s personality is founded and therefore the fear of seeing one’s own undermined is normal.
